Reopening Update from Fr. Augustine
Dear brothers and sisters of St. Gregory Nazianzen Church,
I would like to send my warmest greetings to all of you. Our parish will begin the process of reopening in mid-July. Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, however, some restrictions will remain in place and our reopening will happen slowly over time.
It’s important to remember that Archbishop José Gómez has extended the dispensation from our Sunday Mass obligation until further notice. In other words, despite our parish’s reopening you still do not have to attend any Masses at this time. Parishioners are wondering if they need to go to confession for missing Sunday Masses since our closure in March. The simple answer is no. You do not have to go to confession for missing Sunday Mass because of the continuing dispensation. For those who still wish to go, confessions will be available outside the rectory office beginning on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 according to the following schedule:
Weekly Confessions Schedule
- Wednesday, 6:30pm - 7:30pm (Spanish, English and Korean)
- Thursday, 6:30pm - 7:30pm (English and Korean)
- Friday, 6:30pm - 7:30pm (Spanish, English and Korean)
- Saturday, 9:00am - 10:00am (English and Korean)
Sunday Masses will begin on a limited schedule starting Sunday, July 19, 2020 as follows:
Sunday Mass Schedule for July 2020
- Sunday, July 19 and July 26 - 9:00am (Korean)
- Sunday, July 19 and July 26 - 11:00am (English)
- Sunday, July 19 and July 26 - 1:00pm (Spanish)
Due to limited seating, reservations are required and you must call the rectory office before that Sunday Mass, in order to reserve a seat. There will also be a check-in process before you can enter, so please come early. Throughout the month of August, we are hoping to gradually have Sunday Mass walk-ins, weekday Masses and private prayer to become available.
There will be no ministry meetings, food sales, and group gatherings on the parish grounds until further notice. Once again, because of the Archbishop’s continuing dispensation we are not required to attend Sunday Mass. The elderly, young children, and those with weakened immune systems, are encouraged to stay home and participate through the Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels Masses at www.olacathedral.org/live.
I hope you will remain safe and healthy and may God continue to bless you and your families.
In Christ,
Fr. Augustine Chang
